2023 Dog Project Events

MANDATORY TRAINING ORIENTATION
TUESDAY, ARPIL 18, 2023 | 6:00 P.M. | West Salem American Legion Post 51 (148 Leonard St)
Bring a copy of dog’s Rabies and Distemper shots to the meeting, or get to the 4-H office by 4:30 April 19, 2023 (can also email them to lacrossecounty4h@lacrossecounty.org. Dog project members who will be showing at the Fair for Obedience, Showmanship, Critter Hunt or Agility are required to attend this meeting with a parent. Do not bring your dog to this meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting, please reach out to Lisa Gray (tlcml5@outlook.com or 608-317-5794) prior to the meeting.

2023 Dog Training Classes – ALL Information below is pending (as of March 24, 2023)

Classes will begin tentatively on April 25th. There will be a mandatory orientation meeting on Tuesday, April 18 (see above), more information will be coming soon about all the classes.

Dog Obedience, Showmanship, Agility, Critter Hunt and Quiz Bowl classes are open to all 4-H members in grades 3 and up. To register, please fill out the registration below and return to the La Crosse County Extension Office (212 6th St N, La Crosse), with a copy of your dog’s shot records of rabies (required), distemper (required), and bordetella (recommended) vaccinations to the 4-H office by April 19th.

Payments will be collected at the first day of classes. There is a maximum registration fee of $35 per student and/or $60 per family. Community youth (not 4-H) registration fees are $50 per student, per class.

FYI – This does NOT enroll you in the 4-H Dog Project, this registration is only for the classes offered through the Dog Project. To be eligible to exhibit at the La Crosse Interstate Fair youth need to select the Dog Project in their 4HOnline enrollment by April 1st.

Obedience

  • Classes will meet every Tuesday for 11 weeks beginning (waiting for confirmation of all these details) at the Farm Progress Building on the La Crosse Interstate Fairgrounds.
  • Beginner A & B classes (1st & 2nd year students) will run from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
  • Novice & Advanced classes (1st year students off-leash) will run from 7:00-8:00 p.m.
  • For safety reasons, Beginner A, Beginner B and Novice class students must have a parent/adult attend each class to assist their youth.
  • Registration fee is $15 per student.

Agility

  • Classes will meet every for 11 weeks beginning  at the Farm Progress Building on the La Crosse Interstate Fairgrounds.
  • Beginner class (on-leash students) will run from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and set up at 5:45 p.m.
  • Advanced class (off-leash students) will run from 7:00-8:00 p.m. and put away equipment until 8:15 p.m.
  • For safety reasons, all students must have a parent/adult attend each class to help set up and tear down the course. All students must also have 1 year of completed obedience training to join the class.
  • Registration fee is $15 per student.

Showmanship

  • Classes will meet every for 9 weeks at the Farm Progress Building on the La Crosse Interstate Fairgrounds.
  • All levels will run from 6:30-7:00 p.m. or 7:00-7:30 p.m.
  • Registration fee is $15 per student.

Quiz Bowl

  • Classes will meet every for 9 weeks at the Farm Progress Building on the La Crosse Interstate Fairgrounds.
  • All levels will run from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in 20-minute time slots. This will be organized to work with each student’s schedule.
  • Registration is free for this class! Enthusiastic members may join the county Quiz Bowl team and compete at the State Dog Show in late summer/early fall.

For all Dog Project members (Jr & Sr books), the record book has the Project Evaluation Form included, and all grades are encouraged to complete the Financial section.
